Support Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2013 on 1st June

On the Saturday morning, 1st June 2013, you and your family members, loved ones and friends can all join together for a meaningful and fun charity walk event in Singapore without shoes. This is the 5th edition of Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2013 that would be held at Gardens By The Bay East, Tanjong Rhu. I had supported the Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole in 2011 and 2012, it had been a good experience to be part of this charity walk event and I was glad to help the needy people. Last year’s 2012 event saw 5,000 participants take part, with over S$300,000 raised for Habitat for Humanity Singapore. The organisers hope to see more than 5,000 pairs of bare feet for Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2013.

For Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2013, they will be helping to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity Singapore’s ‘Project Homeworks’. The project was conceived to improve the living conditions of Singapore’s elderly, sick and physically-challenged citizens living in one-room flats all over the island. In Singapore, as many as 35,000 people are living alone in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. Being elderly, sick or handicapped, these people are unable to clean their homes effectively. Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2013 will help raise funds for these local beneficiaries and increase awareness for the project. Through ‘Project Homeworks’, volunteers are mobilised to help clean-up these homes and in turn, improve the lives of many Singaporeans.

Singapore has enjoyed tremendous growth and prosperity today, with modern high rise developments and a good standard of living. However, there are fellow Singaporeans that are not able to catch up with the growth and prosperity, thus some of them have fallen behind the rest of the society today due to their circumstances. We can all help them to make a difference to these group of fellow Singaporeans that have fallen behind through your contributions.

Online registration for Habitat-Barclays Bare Your Sole 2013 opens today on www.bareyoursole.org.sg and the website contains all the necessary information for the event on Saturday, 1 June. The event website also allows participants to pledge a donation online. For more information about supporting events, behind-the-scenes information about ‘Project Homeworks’, as well as competitions leading up to event, please visit the Habitat-Barclays Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BareYourSoleSG

No matter how big or small, you can make a difference and make an impact to the group of needy people in Singapore during Bare Your Sole 2013.

Walking Barefoot at Bare Your Sole 2011

In a modern cosmopolitan city like Singapore, with her high standards of living and modern lifestyle, having access to many technological advancements and tools, social media, internet and many other wonderful things. Many a times, we forgot how much we have progressed from a sleep fishing village to a modern country today, failing to appreciate the peace, prosperity, healthy and nice living environment.

There are people in other parts of the world, that are not able to enjoy all of the things we are having and enjoying now in Singapore, these people could be living in developing countries and disaster stricken areas. It was from this charity walk, Bare Your Sole 2011, organised by Habitat for Humanity Singapore, showing that organisations are out there helping these people who are in need of help, to help them build a decent home, a shelter over their head, a place for them to live in.

Bare Your Sole 2011 was held at Gardens by the Bay East (Rhu Cross) on 18th June 2011, a great turnout of support and walkers, walking barefoot and raising funds for the needy. Although the weather wasn’t sunny and bright, it wasn’t raining and the rain stopped, just nice for the walk to begin. Flagged off by Mr Dhanabalan, A leisure walk in the Gardens, beautiful sceneries of Singapore’s Marina Bay landscape of Marina Barrage, Singapore Flyer, Marina Square, Raffles Place CBD and Marina Bay Sands. The crowds were great, from all ages and walks of life, walking barefoot in the name of charity, enjoying themselves and taking many photos too!

It was fun to be part of this interesting and noble event, helping to raise the funds for other needy people too. While we are able to enjoy the high standards of living and comfort in Singapore now, let’s all take stock and appreciate the finer things in life, not just chasing the dollars and cents, status and power. Therefore, we can also help those around us who are more needy too!

Must Try Food : Char Siew Bao (Tanjong Rhu)

Char Siew Bao of Tanjong Rhu, sometimes known as the char siew bao from Kampung Arang. This is definitely (in my humble opinion), one of Singapore’s best Char Siew Bao and it’s a hidden gem, tucked away in an old housing estate in Singapore. During lunch time, there would be a queue for buying their Tim Sum, especially their Char Siew Bao !

Introducing Chin Sin Huan Eating House Tim Sum & Pau, more affectionately known as the Tanjong Rhu bao, I recalled my first trip years ago in 2001, when the coffee shop wasn’t renovated, still pretty much in its authentic retro fittings and furnishings, I had a taste of their very famous Char Siew Bao and today, almost 10 years later, the standards have maintained and it is still as delicious, tasty and wonderful.

This Char Siew Bao is small in size, however, don’t look down on their size ! Inside the Char Siew Bao, it’s packed and filled with rich portions of char siew meat ! Take a look below ! Don’t you want to try them ?

Look no further, Chin Sin Huan Eating House Tim Sum & Pau is located at Kallang area (Kampung Arang/Kampung Kayu)

Address : 7 Jalan Batu, #01-113
