Go on Battle Rides

The Battle Rides will be one of the main/most popular highlights of Army Open House 2017, whereby you would expect a huge crowd wanting to have a go on the various Battle Rides offered during Army Open House 2017 @ City.

Land Rides – Terrex ICV , Bronco ATTC , LSV Mark II , Peacekeeper PRV

Water Rides – M3G , LARC V

I took a ride on the M3G during the media preview, had a short water ride on the waters of Marina Bay, had some great views of the Marina Bay surroundings and Army Open House 2017!

Take note! Look out on the map and head down to the booth to register for your battle rides!

Participate in “Soldier Strong Challenge”

An action area, ideal for adults to participate together with their children, great time for father-child bonding session! It’s a mix of the former Standard Obstacle Course (a.k.a SOC) and the new age SOC for the modern 3G Army training.

When I saw the “SOC ground”, it brought back many many NS memories for me, the SOC was a nightmare for me when I was a recruit, as time went by during my NS time, it got better and easier as I got fitter from the physical training, conditioning and build up during my NS days. Many stories and memories from my SOC days during my NS days, those were some unforgettable days for me.

If you are game for it, have a go at the “Soldier Strong Challenge” with your child, it’s going to be a priceless family bonding activity!

NS50 Showcase

50 years, a milestone for National Service in Singapore. Our Singapore Army has come a long way since 1967, since the start of National Service. Today, we had a modern 3rd Generation army equipped with some of the latest military equipment and vehicles. National Service had gone through so much over the 50 years and I was also one of the many many Singaporeans that went through National Service. The importance and significance of National Service must never be forgotten, all of us have a part to play in our national defence.

The NS50 Showcase is a very interesting exhibition, besides walking through history and evolution of National Service in Singapore, this is also an experiential exhibition incorporating modern technology such as virtual reality and videos.

This NS50 Showcase is not just a history showcase, it’s also about the people that went through, served and supported NS, it’s also about the achievements of our National Service men and women, in defending and safeguarding Singapore, as well as the international roles/support that our Singapore Armed Forces played.

National Service – Serve, Support, Pledge, Reflect, four keywords at the end of NS50 Showcase segment. We must not forget that defence and safety of our nation lies in our own hands and not somebody else.

Dynamic Defence Display (3D) Show

The Dynamic Defence Display (3D) Show is another key highlight of Army Open House 2017 @ City. The 3D Show gives the public a better understanding of our various types of military equipment, vehicles, personnel in action, a showcase of the modern 3G Army warfare capabilities.

There are quite a number of 3D Show in action, it would be great for the family and children to watch and learn more about Singapore Army. What are some of the 3D show actions that you can expect to watch? Let me share some photographs below!

Limited edition collectibles

Take a look at this video on The Singapore Army Facebook Page, would you love to get your hands on these collectibles?

Something Happened at Robinson Road !! (It’s Ah BOYS to MEN in Action lah!)

Robinson Road, located in the heart of Singapore’s Central Business District between Tanjong Pagar and Raffles Place, two key financial hubs of Singapore. An area and long road that that is crucial to the prosperity and growth of Singapore, was suddenly into a war zone, under attack by enemy forces. Debris, damages and casualties were all around, smoke and fire can be seen around the Robinson Road war zone. The Singapore Armed Forces were swift and decisive in reaching the Robinson Road war zone, preparing to take down the enemy forces and reclaim back our land, properties, saving the nation and her citizens. There was a loud explosion, a car was blown up and burst into flames!

Hang on … This is not a real war scene and Singapore is not at war.

Robinson Road is still very busy and crowded during the weekdays, the financial hubs are still running strong and great! This was the scene of the upcoming movie, directed by Jack Neo and his company JTeam Productions, titled “Ah BOYS to MEN” 《新兵正传》. In conjunction with NS45, the 45th year of National Service in Singapore, Director Jack Neo decided to do something for National Service in Singapore, what is it all about and how it relates to Singaporeans, their parents, siblings, friends and society and understanding the influence of National Service in Singapore. Do check out Jack Neo’s Ah BOYS to MEN introduction video here below –

I was invited by MINDEF Public Relations and JTeam Productions, along with a group of blogger friends, to visit their movie shooting/production site at Robinson Road. It was an honour to be given the opportunity and be invited inside the movie setup and have an up close and personal feel of the filming action as well as behind the scenes filming and shooting. Needless to say, it was a real eye-opener to see Robinson Road closed to the public for this filming and how it was transformed into a war zone!

When the filming took a break in between filming different segments, the group of us went down into the “war zone” and started photographing the layout and landscape of the filming setup. We were also honoured by the opportunity given to speak to the Director himself, Jack Neo, who shared with us about this film, the progress and what would be happening next. We took a group photo and Jack Neo got us to shout “Steady Lah!” with the hand swinging action in the middle of Robinson Road with the “war zone” setup!

The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) were very supportive of Jack Neo Ah BOYS to MEN movie production. Check out the e-news on CyberPioneer – Growing Up from “Ah Boys” to Men. This upcoming local movie Ah BOYS to MEN will be shown in two parts, the first part is in November 2012 and the second part will be released during Chinese New Year 2013. Meanwhile, stay tuned and follow them closely for more updates here –

Here’s where I uploaded my Ah BOYS to MEN movie shoot/production site visit at Robinson Road on Flickr! A preview of what’s in store and coming in the final production that is coming to a cinema near you in November 2012 and Chinese New Year 2013! Being a huge fan of Director Jack Neo, from his suite of local movies that he directed, I believe that it will be a movie that the true blue heartlander in us Singaporeans (and also being an NSman) can relate and connect to easily! I am looking forward to the release of Ah BOYS to MEN in the cinemas!

Army Open House 2012 @ Our City

The Singapore Army is entering our Lion City this weekend from the 24th to 28th May 2012, bringing with them their big military equipment and technology into the heart of Singapore, at the Marina Bay area. This is the Army Open House 2012, held at the Singapore F1 Pit Building, in support of the growth and prosperity of Singapore, bringing the Army closer to the public with this Army Open House engagement, building and fostering closer relationship, as well as showcasing NS45 and the capabilities of the modern 3rd Generation (3G) Army of Singapore.

This is my 3rd time visiting Army Open House and I am glad to be visiting them again since my previous 2 Army Open House in 2007 and 2009, do check out my stories and photographs below –

Army Open House 2007 story and photos

Army Open House 2009 story and photos

Army Open House 2012 is special and unique this year, moving away from the Army Camp grounds, into the heart of Singapore, promising to be a Grand Celebration of 45 years of National Service in Singapore and to showcase our modern 3G Singapore Army capabilities. I was honoured to be invited by MINDEF Public Affairs to attend a preview of Army Open House 2012 @ Our City on Tuesday 22nd May on what participants and visitors can expect for this coming weekend Army Open House on 26th to 27th May 2012. The Army Open House 2012 promises to be fun and exciting, even though it is  away from the Army Camp grounds. At the Singapore F1 Pit Building and surrounding areas, they have the following highlights

– NS45 Showcase

– Army Avenue and Pavilion Display

– Dynamic Show Arena

– Technology & Innovation Zone

– Battle Rides Zone

– Combat Zone

– Carnival Zone

That’s something for everybody, from the young to the adults, it’s going to be fun and nostalgic for many of those who served National Service. The most popular highlights in my opinion will be Dynamic Show Arena, Battle Rides Zone, Combat Zone and NS45 Showcase! Don’t miss out the above popular highlights that I shared, it’s going to be a fun time for your kids too and a good bonding time for your family too! Do check out some of the photographs that I took during the preview of what you can find at Army Open House 2012 @ Our City !

A key highlight that strikes a deep chord with/inside me is NS45 Showcase, something special and unique that most (if not all) Singapore males have to go through, the bonding, the time spent serving National Service (2 years and 6 months for me), the friendship, camaraderie, leadership, physical training, the blood, sweat and tears. That journey is very special and tough yet it builds up the character and discipline into us, we metamorphosis from boys to men. Looking back at the founding 1st Generation Army, to the 2nd Generation Army that I was in, and now we are looking at the modern well equipped 3rd Generation Army. Going through the NS45 Showcase brought back many many of my memories serving National Service and I was able to relate with my fellow blogger friends on what we went through, some shared common memories of anything related to our National Service days, as we said when the group of us walked through the NS45 Showcase, we had a common lingo “Those were the days!”

Times and technology has changed tremendously, the roles of our Singapore Army has also changed too, from defending a nation to helping and supporting other nations around the world. From Fathers to Sons, 45years of National Service, we can see, watch and listen to 1st Generation NSmen (The Fathers) sharing their stories, passing down their stories and memories to their sons, who are serving in the current 3rd Generation National Service. The Singapore Army today is an integral factor in ensuring the safety and defense of Singapore in the early days of independence, allowing overseas investors to have the confidence to invest in Singapore, thus bringing economic and prosperity progress from 1965 till today. The modern 3rd Generation Singapore Army is well prepared and ready to handle the threats, making Singapore a safe country to live in. Beyond the shores, they have make many contributions and support overseas too that Singaporeans can be proud of.

Army Open House 2012 is happening this weekend on 26th and 27th May 2012, drop by Singpore F1 Pit Building, enjoy and have fun there while learning more about 3G Singapore Army!
