Gardens By The Bay Update – Children’s Garden & Sun Pavilion

Gardens By The Bay has been an iconic landmark and destination since her days when she was first officially opened to the public. Having been to Gardens By The Bay a number of times, photographing and covering her growth and expansion in stages from her pre-opening days (sneak peak) to the official opening and visiting Gardens By The Bay along the way, she has added and opened more interesting themes to the overall Gardens By The Bay.

In my most recent visit to Gardens By The Bay, hosted by the friendly staff, a group of social media enthusiasts were given a tour of the latest floral display inside the Flower Dome – Battle of the Roses. Mihkkaail Ng also brought us around for a special guided tour of the various gardens inside the Flower Dome, Succulent Garden, The BaoBabs, Australian Garden and Californian Garden (check out more information of the various gardens here!) Over the period when Gardens By The Bay first officially opened her doors to the public, the trees, floral and fauna inside Flower Dome slowly increases, transforming into a lush and beautiful gardens from around the different continents of the world.

Sun Pavilion

We then proceed to the newly opened Sun Pavilion, not too far away from the Flower Dome. Sun Pavilion is the prickly garden, home to one of Southeast Asia’s largest cacti and succulent gardens. Sun Pavilion is home to over 1,000 desert plants comprising some 100 different species and varieties and with her opening on 28th February 2014, visitors to Gardens By The Bay has something special and unique to visit and learn more about the different floral and fauna around the world! We were given a guided tour by Anton Steven, an expert of the desert plants under his charge at the Sun Pavilion!

2T2J3232

When you are visiting Sun Pavilion, you will be able to spot the amazing Mexican columnar cacti, which bring to mind the desert landscapes reminiscent of those in olden-day cowboy films, and the large succulent Euphorbias, which while less spiny, are interesting as they produce latex to protect themselves against hungry predators. The Sun Pavilion also houses smaller succulents with eye-catching details such as the Brazilian species of Turk’s Cap, and the Brain Cactus.

The various and unique desert plants really make a walkthrough the Sun Pavilion very interesting and visitors can get to learn more about them and how countries with deserts look like with the desert plants. More information on the Sun Pavilion – at Gardens by the Bay is available here at –  http://www.gardensbythebay.com.sg/sunpavilion.

Far East Organization Children’s Garden

There is a star attraction now at Gardens By The Bay, the Far East Organization’s Children’s Garden, making Gardens By The Bay truly a park for the young and the old! The Children’s Garden was made possible with a SGD10-million contribution from Far East Organization. The Far East Organization Children’s Garden encourages playfulness by giving children the liberty to explore, imagine and create – in a way that no smartphone, tablet, or game console can offer – all within a garden setting that will spark the child’s imagination and appreciation for nature and the environment. The Far East Organization Children’s Garden is now open to the public and admission is free. The play area operates from 9am to 9pm, and closes for maintenance every Monday (or the next working day if a public holiday falls on a Monday of that week.

2T2J3275

Hanging around the Children’s Garden, the Water Play, Adventure Trails, Tree Houses and Forest Adventure, we can see that it is very popular with the children, running around and having a fun and leisure time either with the water or the playgrounds in the Forest Adventure. The adults accompanying their children, I am pretty sure they are also enjoying a bit of themselves too, remembering the days when they were young and carefree playing in the playgrounds.

Gardens By The Bay – War of the Roses

The season of beautiful and glorious roses are now in bloom at Gardens By The Bay, engaging in a War of the Roses floral display inside the Flower Dome from 26th February 2014 to 6th April 2014, that showcases one of the world’s most popular bloom.

2T2J3192

Titled “War of the Roses”, it is not about the roses fighting with each other. The floral display draws inspiration from an event of the same name that took place in 15th century England. The historical “War of the Roses” was a series of civil wars between the House of Lancaster and the House of York that were vying for the throne of England. Its name drew reference to the emblems associated with the two Houses – the Red Rose of Lancaster and the White Rose of York. (Source: Gardens By The Bay)

2T2J3152

Gardens By The Bay is transformed into medieval times and visitors are brought back in time. There are two armour-plated knights on horses, amidst in a battle of roses in different shapes, sizes and colours. The “War of the Roses” floral display, which features some 60 varieties of England’s national flower, is part of the Europe leg of the “Gardens by the Bay Goes around the World” series for 2014.

2T2J3212

During my recent visit to the Flower Dome for the War of the Roses, the floral display was really beautiful! The floral display of the various roses was bright and colourful and they will definitely catch your attention to the beautiful roses! Remember to bring your camera along and take many photographs and memories of the War of the Roses floral display! Check out my photographs on the War of the Roses at Gardens By The Bay on Flickr!

Flight of Fancy Photography Exhibition

At Gardens By The Bay, the City in a Garden, located in the heart of the Marina Bay region, it has been gaining prominence and publicity, with many visitors, both local and international, coming down to visit Gardens By The Bay. The visitors were able o enjoy the greenery and sceneries, a park/garden to rest and relax away from the city life. Over a short period of 1 year since her official opening on 28th June 2012, Gardens By The Bay is developing into park/garden that attracts wildlife to the area. In my recent adventure to explore and photograph the birds that can be spotted at Gardens By The Bay, I was amazed of the diversity and number of bird species spotted at Gardens By The Bay! My bird photography adventure will still continue with the migration season coming soon and we can expect to spot more migration birds en-route to different continents and stopping over in Singapore at various locations.

Spring Celebrations 2013 at Gardens By The Bay

Spring Celebrations 2013 is happening at Gardens By The Bay! Welcoming the Year of the Snake with a beautiful of flora display in the flower dome featuring some 8,000 colourful blooms. The Gardens By The Bay is definitely a destination to visit during the Chinese New Year period holidays with your family and loved ones, enjoying the beautiful flowers blooming and sculptures around the Gardens By The Bay. We took the Garden Cruiser to tour the Gardens By The Bay and had a greater understanding of the different unique sculptures located in the various parts of the Gardens. Therefore, when you are visiting Gardens By The Bay, do keep a lookout for them! When you are at Gardens By The Bay, you have to visit the the Meadow, you can see something very unique and very impressive, it’s a “very big infant” sculpture, by internationally acclaimed artist Marc Quinn. The impressive sculpture is known as Planet, explores the intimate relationship between nature and humanity, and serves as a natural extension of the Gardens’ efforts to connect people with the stories of plants and the planet. The sculpture is a depiction of the artist’s infant son and he can be seen appearing to be “floating” above the ground. You have to visit this impressive sculpture yourself to view it! Do visit Gardens By The Bay during this Chinese New Year holidays period!

Gardens By The Bay in Singapore is Officially Opened !

On the Thursday of the 28th June 2012, this marks a special and memorable day in the history of Singapore. The Gardens By The Bay is officially opened by the Guest of Honour, Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong with over 700 guests inside the Flower Dome at the Gardens By The Bay. I was very honoured to be invited to the official opening and enjoyed the tour of the Cloud Forest that I wasn’t able to visit when I was visiting Gardens By The Bay earlier in the months before that for special preview and photography taking.

From my short visiting experiences earlier, once in 2011 when the 20th World Orchid Conference was held in Singapore and the Gardens By The Bay was opened to the public for a sneak short preview, I was there too enjoying the special preview of Gardens By The Bay. I was amazed by the design, layout and different types of flora and fauna that will be located there especially the SuperTrees whom I was really looking forward to its opening. Closer to the official opening date of The Gardens By The Bay, I was invited for another sneak preview to photograph and share with my readers and followers the upcoming opening of the beautiful and magnificent Gardens, visiting the SuperTrees over two days in the early morning and evening.

One of my photograph taken during our sneak preview was selected for Gardens By The Bay roving exhibition around Singapore at Far East Organization shopping malls. Currently, it is now on display at the Gardens By The Bay along with its official opening! Once again, I would like to say a Big Thank you to the organisations National Parks Singapore, Gardens By The Bay and Marina Bay Singapore for selecting my photograph! Along with the official opening of Gardens By The Bay to the public on the 29th June 2012, there are a series of events and activities, do check out the events listing page on their website for more details.

Inside the Cloud Forest Dome, there is a 35m tall mountain complete with the tallest indoor waterfall covered in beautiful lush green vegetation. My impression upon entering the Cloud Forest and looking high up at the mountain and waterfall is a WOW ! The Cloud Forest portrays plant life from about 2,000-metres above sea level at the top of the mountain to around 1,000-metres at the bottom of the ravine. Taking a lift up to the top and walking down towards the ravine, it was like my trekking adventure to Mount Kinabalu, the mist and coolness of the high altitude. Admission charges apply and the information can be found here on their website.

The Flower Dome is a cool-dry conservatory that replicates cool-dry climate of Mediterranean regions like South Africa, California and parts of Spain and Italy. There is a great collection of plants from deserts all over the world, showcasing how these plants adapt around different environments. This is a place for everybody to slow down and relax, enjoy the cooling atmosphere, admire the beautiful flowers and smell the beautiful fragrance from the different flowers. Admission charges apply and the information can be found here on their website.

The SuperTree Grove, 16 storeys in height, with 12 of the SuperTrees located at the SuperTree Grove, these SuperTrees give Gardens By The Bay an iconic tall landmark of tall and mature trees, complementing the high rise buildings of Marina Bay region. You can take a stroll up above the SuperTrees, 128m long walkway that connects the two 25-metre Supertrees at the Supertree Grove. The views along the walkway will give you a bird’s eye view of Gardens By The Bay and surrounding areas of Marina Barrage, Marina Bay and Central Business District. You will definitely love it up there and I will be returning soon to cover more of the SuperTree Grove! Admission charges apply and the information can be found here on their website. Do check out the photos collection here on the SuperTree Groves !

Let’s all welcome the opening of Gardens By The Bay !! You have to visit this beautiful place and check it out!! Here’s some photographs taken during the official opening of Gardens By The Bay on 29th June 2012 ! I have created a folder collection of Gardens By The Bay during my earlier adventures and future explorations here on Flickr !

Gardens By The Bay – A Special Preview

From her journey since her independence in 1965, to the current status as a world cosmopolitan city living, Singapore prided herself as a Garden City, with many trees, flowers and grassland in the midst among the concrete jungle, especially along the roads and living community areas. Visitors to Singapore are amazed at the greenery within such a small land space along with her highly densely populated land usage.

In June 2012, Singapore will see an even bigger, better and more beautiful change to her greenery and garden space, Singapore’s paradigm shift is from “Garden City” to “City in a Garden”, a brand new holistic landmark to welcome the new “City in a Garden”, ladies and gentlemen, presenting Gardens By The Bay.

Along with the 20th World Orchid Conference held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, visitors to the World Orchid Conference are able to visit the Gardens By the Bay for a special preview, behind Marina Bay Sands, at the former Marina South Park. Even at this junction in time, Gardens By The Bay is not fully completed, visitors to the Gardens By The Bay – Bay South were not left disappointed and many were mesermised by aura, beauty, greenery and abundance of different trees and flowers from different parts of the world.

Visitors first impression walking over from Marina Bay Sands was the landscape beauty, walking along the DragonFly Bridge, visitors would see the DragonFly Lake before entering into the various Heritage Gardens comprising of

SuperTree Grove

Do you notice a few very special structure that stands out, it’s very unique and specially designed ? They are known as the SuperTree Grove, 25m to 50m high, they are your Gardens in the air, vertical gardens, showcasing tropical flowering climbers, epiphytes and ferns. Another awesome beauty is, when the night falls, they will come alive with very beautiful lightings and projected media.

The Conservatory Complex, 2 unique and beautiful architectural icons – Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, the Flower Dome was opened for visitors to enter and they were treated to a magnificent beauty of different Gardens within the Flower Dome Garden. The Flower Dome replicates the cool-dry climate of Mediterranean and semi-arid subtropical regions like South Africa and Europe countries such as Spain and Italy. The Flower Dome is a VERY AMAZING icon, over 3,332 glass panels of different shapes and sizes made this so beautiful, unique and special!! With the following Gardens inside the Flower Dome

Ben & Jerry Chunk Fest 2009 @ Marina Barrage

IMG_4563Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl – Milk Chocolate Ice Cream with a Thick Peanut Butter Swirl – Love chocolate? Love peanut butter? Then this must be the perfect concoction for you. Smooth, velvety milk chocolate ice-cream with thick, gooey swirls of peanut butter – nothing can be better than that!”

Mention the word Ben & Jerry ice cream and you would send many people from young to old, craving and eating them with great enthusiasm and delight. I am a fan of their ice cream and when Ben & Jerry’s in Singapore announced Chunk Fest 2009 to be held at the Marina Barrage, it attracted quite a lot of their fans coming to down for the “Exclusive” Ben & Jerry ice cream, that are not available in Singapore, imported from the U.S.A.

IMG_4555

The event was held at the roof terrace of the Marina Barrage and it was a great ground for picnics, gatherings, kite flying, enjoying Ben & Jerry ice cream and a live music carnival with 5 other local bands coming together and performing at Chunk Fest 2009. Weather was good, it was hot and hazy, you could feel, sense and see the haze covering the Marina Bay and its surroundings. Nevertheless, it didn’t deter the fun from going on.

IMG_4556

Walked around, enjoyed the atmosphere and carnival, selected 1 of the 12 Ben & Jerry ice cream, the Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl …… What can I say ….. It’s really delicious and lovely !! There were more activities ongoing during the entire event, didn’t get to catch all of them as I went around in the late afternoon, after 4pm.

IMG_4560

I was having fun, relaxing and enjoying myself before something happened to Canon EOS 30D, suffered with an Error 99 code, all possible attempts were used to revive my workhorse Canon EOS 30D and it was to no avail, I am going to send it in to Canon Singapore Service Centre (AGAIN) for my 2nd Error 99 issue on the coming Monday morning. With that, my adventure at Ben & Jerry Chunk Fest 2009 was brought to an abrupt end.

Marina Barrage Opening Ceremony – 1st November 2008

The Marina Bay Front had now become one of Singapore’s iconic landscape, with our high CBD office towers and buildings, upcoming Marina Bay Financial District, the upcoming Sands Integrated Resort, another iconic artistic landmark, the Esplanade.

Today, the whole Bay marked a significant change in Singapore’s history. The Marina Barrage is officially completed and opened to the public, finally operational and this would provide Singapore with another source of drinking water a few years down the road and transforming our Bay into a vibrant city of water living and recreational activities. The Marina Barrage is our latest Water Icon and the vision of Singapore’s Founding Father, for greater details of the Marina Barrage, do drop by their official site

It was not my first visit to the Marina Barrage because I ran across it during the Army Half Marathon ! However, it was the Official Event today and there were many people dropping down to the Marina Barrage for a visit of Singapore’s latest water icon. There was quite a queue for the shuttle bus at the Marina South Station and thus quite a wait too. Finally, I decided to catch a bus service instead and walked a short distance.

Upon reaching the Marina Barrage, it was lively with many people, they were simply to soak in the carnival, events, seminars and sightseeing. There were a number of photographers there to snap Singapore’s beautiful landscape, the Marina Bay Front. I met with James & Shirley, my old friends, after last week solemnisation ceremony. We walked along the dam and took photographs too ! Today was a good time to soak up the event and find good spots to take landscape photos, potential location for outdoor shoot too and of course, fireworks photo taking !

We also witnessed how the Marina Barrage would be operating when PUB opened up 3 of its gates and let the water from the Marina Bay out into the sea ! It was a great educational lesson to learn how a dam works !

Rest assured, I would be back to take more photos of the Marina Barrage and its surroundings ! It’s a beautiful city that I am living in ! Do drop by my Flickr for more photos of the Marina Barrage !

31st December 2006 – New Year Eve Countdown Fireworks @ Marina South Park

Year 2006 is coming to an end, soon we began to usher in 2007 with a big bang full of beautiful lights, one of my favourites , FIREWORKS !!!!

A big group of colleagues went to Marina South for steamboat buffet but we did not meet at Marina South watching the fireworks as Ray and I were at different locations within Marina South viewing the fireworks.

It was a great spectacle to watch fireworks from Marina South, the fireworks were smaller from our view but it was a different location that might be useful for future considerations when taking fireworks in the future.

Folks, hope you enjoy the fireworks !

Happy New Year ! Best Wishes, Love, Hope, Peace !
