Lomography announced Color Negative F²/400 35mm film

Photographers! Film is not dead!

The Color Negative F²/400 35mm film is making a comeback with Lomography and this would be good news for analogue lovers and those who are going into analogue photography for the first time.

Let me share with you more information and details of the Lomography Color Negative F²/400 35mm film from the press release information below –

BRINGING BACK A LONG-LOST FILM

Lomography is all about being different — about ignoring the rules, trying something new, and going with the wackier option. In 2010, illustrious Italian manufacturers announced that they were going to stop producing film. But what initially appeared to be another victim of the digital age caught Lomography’s eye as a fantastic creative opportunity. Lomography jumped at it, snapping up the last ever master roll of 400 ASA film. Seven years later, having worked diligently to keep the fire of analogue photography burning, Lomography is excited to blow the dust off its one-of-a-kind hidden film gem and present it to you in 35mm format!

CAREFULLY STORED AS A MASTER ROLL

By storing FÇ/400 as one big roll instead of slicing it up into 35mm strips, the quality of the film remained well protected. Stowed away in the Czech Republic for seven years, this film has developed a totally distinctive look. Lomography is thrilled to offer analogue photographers everywhere a once-in-a-lifetime chance to get their hands on a film unlike any other. Since it’s taken from the very last roll of 400 ASA, stock is very much limited! Snap up a 35mm roll from Lomography Gallery Stores worldwide for as little as 5.90 EUR/USD/GBP or make some great savings when buying packs of five or ten from the Lomography Online Shop.

REFINED GRAIN WITH AN X-PRO FEEL

FÇ/400 is one-of-a-kind Color Negative. Having spent seven years aging like fine wine in oak casks, FÇ/400 has retained all of its refined colors and beautifully unique tone. What’s more, it has developed hints of the characteristic X-Pro aesthetic and beautiful blueish tones in certain shooting conditions, making it unlike any other Color Negative film on the market. Your shots will be drenched in distinctive effects, making FÇ/400 the perfect film for experimenting and trying something new. Load up a variety of different cameras, switch between high and low ISO, and shoot in a range of conditions. Your images will stand out from the crowd!

Lomography Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens Review

A classic lens with a monumental 175 year old Petzval optic. Today, it is re-interpreted and this lens is now available for photographers to own them for their creative and artistic photography. This is the new Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art Lens by Lomography.

B47X2103

This lens, the Petzval 58 bokeh control lens was initially launched via Kickstarter in June 2015 and it was extremely successful. Today, it is now available for your regular purchase. This is a very beautiful lens, the built quality and aesthetics are really of high quality and standards in beautiful brass or black finish and premium Russian Glass Optics. The overall packaging of the Lomography Petzval 58 bokeh control lens is nice and classy, packed nicely inside the box.

The key characteristics of the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens would be the Bokeh Control, the freedom to adjust swirly bokeh like never before, from bokeh levels 1 to 7, to be fitted with a maximum aperture of f/1.9, you can produce something artistic from these characteristics.

Here are some key technical specifications on the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens

Focal Length: 58mm

Aperture: Waterhouse aperture stops: f/1.9, f/2.8, f/4, f/5.6, f/8, f/11, f/16

Lens Mounting Profile: Canon EF or Nikon F

Electronic Contacts: No

Closet Focusing Distance: 0.6m

Bokeh Control Levels: 1 (minimum swirl) to 7 (maximum swirl)

There are two sets of special aperture plates that allows the photographer to expand their creativity with Lomography’s range of Special Aperture Plates. The Special Aperture Plates can are available for purchase separately.

If you are using other camera brands such as Sony, you can purchase adaptors separately to use the Petzval 58 lens with your camera.

I was given the opportunity by Lomography South East Asia to review the Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens and I used it with my Canon EOS-1DX during the review period.

Beyond just an artistic portrait lens

This lens is well known and recognised as a portrait lens, with swirly bokeh control feature that gives it an artistic edge. During my review period, I wanted to test the lens beyond just being a portrait lens and see how versatile it can be when in use.

Besides shooting portraits, I took the Petzval 58 lens out, taking photos of flowers, food and urban landscapes. The option to utilise the swirly bokeh control feature on other subjects (other than human portraits) makes our photography shots more interesting and unique if we decide to apply it in our photography composition.

Delicious charcoal grilled cuisine by Kush SG

What are my thoughts and views of the Lomography Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Lens?

Pros

Beautiful and sharp lens for portraits

This is a beautiful lens, it is sharp. Once you hit the sweet spot, you would love it, the beauty, sharpness and details.

B47X2089

HP of Hpility SG

Swirly bokeh at your own artistic preference

You have a choice of how much swirly bokeh you want in your photograph. With the choices of bokeh levels from 1 to 7, it’s up to you on how you want to express your artistic preference on your portraits or photography subjects.

Creative and artistic! It’s more than just a portrait lens

No doubt, this is first and foremost, primarily used as a portrait lens. This lens is creative and artistic! Pair it with an artistic and creative photographer, it would be a pretty awesome combination of artistic and creative photography! The Lomography Petzval 58 bokeh art control lens also shows that it can be versatile and used in other fields of photography beside portrait photography.

B47X2179

Delicious and awesome charcoal grilled skewers by Kush SG at Timbre+

Cons

Not an easy lens to use

This is a full manual lens, you would need time to get used to a full manual lens with selection of your aperture size/plate and manual focusing.

Aperture plates

The aperture stop can drop out easily when shooting in portrait mode, making it challenging to hold and keep in place when you want to shoot in portrait mode.

Where can I buy the Lomography Petzval 58 bokeh art lens?

This Lomography Petzval 58 bokeh control art lens can be purchased from the Lomography Online Shop and Gallery Stores worldwide.

Here are the links for the Lomography Petzval 58 bokeh control art lens

Special Aperture Blades Season 2 – http://shop.lomography.com/en/petzval58-special-aperture-blades-season2

When I first started using this lens, it took me quite a while to get customised to using this manual lens since I am pretty used to the modern auto-focus lenses. As I slowly got myself used to how the Lomography Petzval 58 bokeh art lens operates, and learning more about the lens characteristics, using this lens got a bit easier down the road during the review period.

In my personal opinion, this lens is able to perform beyond its fame and reputation as a portrait lens, an artistic and creative lens too with its swirly bokeh feature. How a lens can perform is up to the photographer and the photography subject/field matter, and how the lens can be utilised to its other potential.

* I would like to thank Lomography for the opportunity to review the New Petzval 58 Bokeh Control Art Lens *

* I would also like to sincerely thank my friends HP of Hpility SG and Deming of The Quarters and Kush SG for volunteering to be my models for the Lomography Petzval 58 Bokeh Art Lens review *

The Real McCoy – Salted Egg Burger by The Quarters

A few years ago in 2014, I met this guy at a Singapore Tourism Board (STB) event at “Reliving the memories of Haw Par Villa”. He had a small stall in the food village of the STB event, selling a delicious dessert crème brulee of a fruit that I don’t like, the durian crème brulee. For durian lovers, you would love the durian crème brulee, for non durian fans, you can go for his vanilla crème brulee.

IMG_5956

From a pop up stall, he grew, set up and revolutionised local fusion food with the opening of his café/bistro – The Quarters. I really like The Quarters various local fusion food cuisines, not just because it was really delicious. This was also due to his perseverance to innovate and improve his various cuisines, making it a beautiful and gorgeous combination of the East meets West cuisine. From my coverage of his food at the Quarters in this article that I wrote in 2015 and knowing him personally as a friend, a foodie and the founder of The Quarters, I don’t just sense his love and pride for this food and cooking, I can see it and of course eat it (through his various dishes).

Today, I would like to introduce another new cuisine by The Quarters. This is the Real McCoy, a salted egg burger proudly produced and presented by The Quarters.

Version 2

To be honest with everybody, I wasn’t sure what to expect from another salted egg dish initially. When I went to The Quarters and attended their food tasting session, I can understand why this was appropriately named The Real McCoy. Look a good look at the salted egg aioli oozing out from this delicious burger! I really love it, I can feel and taste it, the aroma of the salted egg! Partner The Real McCoy with their Shiok Fries and the overall eating sensation is sibei shiok ah!

Let me share with you some information about The Real McCoy, it’s a oat battered, spiced butter milk infused chicken patty, thick, crispy, juicy and not too oily too! It’s accompanied by a nice amount of lettuce, tomato and last but not least, their legendary salted egg aioli!

When I opened my mouth and gave The Real McCoy my first bite, the juicy chicken patty along with their legendary salted egg aioli not just melts in my mouth, it’s all over on my hands and plate too!

Sometimes no words can justify how good a dish can be, therefore, I highly recommend you to visit The Quarters and taste The Real McCoy for yourself.

More information on the Quarters can be found here –

I would like to thank The Quarters for the invitation to The Real McCoy food tasting session. Great job and well done to the folks at The Quarters! Keep up with the good work on local fusion food cuisines!

New Toy : Lubitel 166B !

In my photographer journey, I recalled playing with manual Pentax SLR (belongs to my father) and Nikon F401X SLR, it was using 35mm film negatives and I wasn’t really into rangefinder or twin lens reflex (TLR) thus no experiences with medium format. Over many years, as I appreciate, explored and tried out different fields of photography, I began to start appreciating lomography and medium format most recently.

Photo Source : Lomography Lubitel Microsite

Learning photography is always on-going, very excited to start from scratch learning another field of photography, excited in the prospects of mastering the TLR and bringing it out for my personal photography project that I would be sharing shortly, another area that I would be exploring and taking photographs would be portraits/people photography using medium format on my Lubitel 166B, bought from E-Bay at a price that I was comfortable with.

Lomography has a dedicated microsite on the Lubitel 166+, with excellent information, history and photographs taken using Lubitel 166+, a newer ( and more modern) cousin of my Lubitel 166B. Checking Flickr groups on Lomography, TLR and Medium Format have been inspiring and I am looking forward to capturing photographs with my Lubitel 166B, sharing with all my readers here and on Flickr.

Looking forward, I would love to share my TLR and b&w Medium Format photojournalistic adventures with you all … What is my personal photography project all about ? It’s about Old Places
