The topic of Kampung Lorong Buangkok had been ringing in our local news/blogsphere for a period of time, with international news Reuters, reporting “Rush for land to sweep away last Singapore Village” on 21st December 2007. Recently, during NDP 2009, there was a video recording of residents from Kampung Lorong Buangkok inside the Singapore Flyer giving interviews and thoughts about the 44th year birthday and growth of Singapore, and how their nice and cosy Kampung Lorong Buangkok place would be in modern Singapore.
Finally, after procrastinating for months and months, I saw fellow LG Photoblogger Tetanus on his recent photography trip to Kampung Lorong Buangkok via twitter and after some discussion, another fellow LG Photoblogger Chester, decided to meet and visit Kampung Lorong Buangkok together. I met Chester at Ang Mo Kio MRT station, hitch a ride with him and drove to Gerald Drive, the rain came pouring and our planned start time to explore was pushed back due to the heavy rain, Chester and myself went up to Jalan Kayu for roti prata breakfast and teh tarik, discussing everything photography under the sun 🙂
Soon, the rain got less heavy and we headed back to Gerald Drive, started exploring Kampung Lorong Buangkok, it was still drizzling and we decided to go ahead exploring in the midst of the drizzle. We hiked inside and discovered a very peaceful and beautiful kampung, probably due to the rain too ! After an initial exploration, we hiked along the monsoon canal that lead to Sungei Punggol, it was forested on the Kampung Lorong Buangkok side and modern landed property on the other side of the canal, a contrast of the modern and old Singapore. The rain gave us another interesting and exciting challenge, the water droplets forming on the leaves and flowers gave different photography opportunities and Chester showed the power of the Tamron 90mm Macro !
Hiking back into the heart of Kampung Lorong Buangkok, we photographed the wooden houses, nicely repainted yet retaining her history and aura, a blend of modern and traditional, coming together in this wonderful kampung. Beautiful gardens and flowers, peaceful and tranquil, just metres away from the modern and fast paced life of Singapore. The rain came pouring back and it really became a bit more difficult, nevertheless, we continued our photography walkabout inside Kampung Lorong Buangkok. For more photos of our photojournalistic adventure, do drop by my Flickr !
As we came to an end of our photography walkabout, how much longer would Kampung Lorong Buangkok has to make way for the growth and expansion of modern Singapore ?

– Grainy image quality for night shots
– Slow focusing
Taking into account the above considerations and it is a camera phone, I am still very impressed and if you are a hardcore DSLR photographer like me, you will be amazed by its multi-function and intelligent features and I believe it will give traditional digital cameras a run for their money with its light and intelligent features along with its smartphone and multimedia phone qualities and features. The 1st half of 2009 is going to pass and we would be entering the 2nd half of 2009 soon. Reflecting back on my photoblogging and photography adventure for the 1st half of 2009, collecting my photo memories came in
(1) Traffic rank – improvement and on target, currently below 100k and striving to make it better and getting larger traffic in.
(2) Recognition – selected by XPR to be part of the LG Life is Viewty-ful Blogger Campaign and being part of the 10 photo bloggers selected to test and help PR and market the LG GC 900 Camera Phone. A great achievement and a testimonial to the efforts and amount of hard work put inside my blogging, internet marketing and social media networking and constantly improving my photography.
(3) Photography Improvements – Planning and seeking to learn studio photography, an area that I wasn’t able to learn from Jeff Loo, my senior from my Dragon Scout Group and a mentor when I learned the tools and trade of freelance photography.
(4) Sports Photography with Coaching – My recent attachment with volleyball coach Jack in his recent tournament gave me a new direction, using sports photography and sports photojournalism to capture his players in competition, their movement and motion, thus, giving the coach on the finer points for his players to improve on.
(5) Photography trips – Still planning my major photography trip, Shangri-La photography adventure and hopefully Bhutan photography trip sometime soon.
Looking forward to my 2nd half of 2009 photography adventure !
First and foremost, it was an honour to be selected to be ONE of the TEN photobloggers to be participating in the LG Life is Viewty-ful photoblogger campaign, testing out the LG Viewty Smart GC 900 camera phone before its official launch at CommunicAsia 2009 at the Singapore Expo.
This selection was something that blew me off, something that I am very happy and proud of, my photoblogging, my social networking, my photography, my journalistic writing, networking and growth of this blog since its birth, an achievement and recognition for my photography, writing, blogging and social networking !
We, the Life is Viewty-ful bloggers, TEN of us, were invited to CommunicAsia 2009 on 18th June 2009 and given a tour of LG, chatting and discussing with fellow bloggers and LG staff from South Korea, from the marketing division and giving our views on the GC 900 camera phone, along with the XPR staff. Besides having a fun discussion and feedback, we were given a tour of the LG exhibition, watching Korean hip-hop dance and performance, exploring the other latest LG smart phones and it was very fun since LG built a giant Crystal Phone to demonstrate their latest phone and technology.
There were many gorgeous ladies helping to demonstrate and explain the various LG phones and technology. LG has taken a huge leap forward in the mobile phone industry, with its latest range of smartphones and S Class technology. My review of the LG Viewty Smart GC 900 and my experience with the camera phone would be in another post coming up soon. I feel that LG has done a great job here in this camera phone segment.
After touring, we head back for another round of feedback and summarising of our GC 900 experiences and if our views, comments and feedback would be able to be implemented into the upcoming batch, or future camera phone design models and it will only make it stronger, better and faster.
Before leaving, we were given some gifts by LG and we were very happy to receive it ! Before leaving, we went around to view the photos taken by the TEN bloggers and some were of high standards, taking photos of the LG Viewty Smart GC 900 display booth and taking group photos for memories.
Presenting the latest camera phone – LG Viewty Smart GC 900
