Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas everybody!!

Today is Christmas 2016, it’s also a long weekend holiday since it falls on a Sunday!! I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!

Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for all the support and encouragement you folks had gave me especially during this difficult and turbulent year 2016. We are reaching the end of year 2016 and let’s all get ready for a fresh new year 2017!

Let this iconic Christmas Tree in Biei, Hokkaido (that I took earlier in October 2016) wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Christmas Wonderland 2015 at Gardens By The Bay

The month of December, the last month of the calendar year, it’s usually a whole month of festivities, fun, gatherings and celebrations leading up to Christmas and the New Year. In Singapore, there are a number of places to celebrate Christmas in the month of December and one great destination to celebrate Christmas in Singapore is to visit Gardens By The Bay for Christmas Wonderland.

Singapore largest yuletide fair is now at Gardens By The Bay, lighted up by bright, colourful, dazzling and amazing Italian Luminarie light sculptures, a European style festive market and there is also Christmas Toyland floral display in the Flower Dome (there are many cute teddy bears!!).

Let me walk you through the fun, celebrations and festivities of Christmas Wonderland 2015 at Gardens By The Bay, with my stories and photos.

Christmas Toyland Floral Display

First and foremost, let’s enter the Flower Dome, decorated and transformed into a Christmas Toyland Floral Display. The kids are going to love the toyland and I am pretty sure adults would love the Christmas toyland too! You can find cute toys there inside the Christmas Toyland, they are the “star attractions”, if you are a fan of teddy bears, you must not miss the Christmas Toyland inside the Flower Dome! While you are enjoying the Christmas Toyland, keep a lookout and spot the yuletide floral favourites like the poinsettia, Christmas rose.

An 11 metre high Christmas Pyramid, in the middle of the Christmas Toyland Floral Display, stands out in the Flower Dome, towering over the floral display area. You can’t miss it and you want to visit it, it’s packed and decked with toys on its multi-tiered traditional German wooden carousel.

Christmas Wonderland at the SuperTree Grove

Next, let’s walk towards the SuperTree Grove where many beautiful and dazzling lights welcome you. This sector has many attractions and fun for you, your loved ones and your friends to enjoy.

Among the tall and might SuperTrees, you can find the festive market, the Spalliera and Ice Palace, where the tallest sculpture of lights towering over 20m can be found.

The Spalliera is the largest Luminarie, surrounding the Cassa Armonica, an 8m wide gorgeous and beautifully lighted gazebo. When you are inside the Spalliera, wait for the Blizzard Time @ Spalliera, to revel and enjoy the wonder of “snow” in the tropics with the nightly Blizzard Time.

The Ice Palace makes her maiden debut at Christmas Wonderland 2015 at Gardens By The Bay, featuring a snow playground and ice skating rink. I reckon this would be a big attraction for family with young children to experience snow and ice skating in the tropics. The Spiegeltent, an ornate century old traveling mirror tent from the Netherlands, is located at SuperTree Grove sector, do drop by and check them out!

Celebrating the festivities, fun, joy and spirit of Christmas at Gardens By The Bay, keep a lookout for festive entertainment and performances –

  • Choral performances at Cassa Armonica by various schools
  • AIA TrickArt
  • Christmas Parades
  • Curtain Call
  • Yuletide Sessions
  • Garden Rhapsody
  • Home for the Holidays (Christmas Toyland at the SuperTree Grove)

The Fairground

After spending time at the SuperTree Grove, walk towards The Fairground, located near The Meadow. This is a fun fair carnival ground, the kids would love it and I am sure the adults would love it too!

What are the fun things that you can enjoy and do at The Fairground ?

  • Vintage Carousel
  • Helter Skelter (It’s a 14m high slide!)
  • Trackless Train
  • Game stalls

This is a good time to play games, have fun and enjoy the Christmas festive season!

Christmas Wonderland 2015 at Gardens By The Bay is great for your entire family and friends, from the seniors to the young children. There is something for you to enjoy, relax and have fun at Christmas Wonderland 2015 at Gardens By The Bay.

A Christmas Gathering & Feasting

Christmas, the festive season, a time for many gatherings and feasting. Organised by Amanda, a few of us came down and had dinner at Tonkichi, Orchard Central. The food there was pretty good especially for their Tonkatsu and if I am going back to eat again, it will be Tonkatsu meal with rice.

Within these group of friends at this dinner, it’s their first time seeing and knowing each other, since they might only be chatting and interacting on the twitter, facebook or blogging arenas, while some of us had met before quite a number of times. There were Clayton, Christopher, Leon, Jerrick, Amanda, Sue and Daphne.

Introduction to those who haven’t met before, chatting away and sharing their professional work experiences, who they are on the twitterverse and blogging arena. With many of us being photographers, there was quite a lot of topics on photography and playing with each other DSLRs and lens, shooting away freely. It was also my first revelation of my Canon 1D Mk 3 to some of them and it became a toy to test the power of 10 fps 🙂

Finishing off the dinner there with a chocolate log cake, the meal was filling and feeling quite full on the tummy. A short walk to find an ice cream place proved Mission Impossible due to the massive crowds at  Orchard Road and we settled for Hereen Basement for McDonald drinks and continued chatting away, with Renhao, coming in to join us for the drinks.

A fun night of eating, chatting, relaxing and playing with toys. Oh yeah, maybe we should take group photos next time !

Tropical Starlit Christmas in Singapore

Christmas 2010 is coming soon, in about a month’s time, it would be Christmas Day soon! A time for celebration, feasting and merry get together for family, relatives and friends. Singapore is also gearing up for Christmas in the Tropics with her traditional Christmas Light Up and dressing up for a month of celebrations with beautiful lights and decorations along Orchard Road.

Starlit Christmas is this year’s theme for the Christmas Light Up and on 20th November onwards, it’s the start of the Christmas LIght Up and Orchard Road is decorated beautifully! Starting my journey from ION Orchard, walking down towards Ngee Ann City, Hereen and walking back to Tangs, there were different coloured themes and lights for each segment of Orchard Road. Along the way, there were Christmas trees of different colours, designs and sizes standing tall along Orchard Road.

Many locals and tourists alike were out in force, enjoying the atmosphere, taking photographs and relaxing, with their shopping bags too. Shopping centres are out in force with the festive season, decorating their buildings and attracting customers inside along with their festive deals.

It’s the time of the year, when it ends and people start to relax and take holidays, shopping and catching up. Hope you all have a nice and fun December 2010 and a Merry Christmas !

Christmas Lights in Tropical Singapore

In the month of Christmas celebrations, Singapore would light up its main shopping districts of Orchard Road and Marina Square/Bay, giving it a tropical style Christmas celebrations, trees and lights ! With the amount of work on hand, I wasn’t able to enjoy taking photographs of the Christmas lights in tropical Singapore.

However, I decided to take some time off and go explore the Christmas lights here in Singapore, starting off with the Marina Bay, Singapore Flyer and Esplanade area. My 1st location was the Singapore Flyer, whereby the tallest Christmas Tree in Singapore at 83m in height was showcased, climbed up the Benjamin Sheares Bridge and took my first few shots, the constant moving of fast vehicles on the expressway bridge provided the floor shaking thus my Canon DSLR on my tripod wasn’t steady either and I forgotten to bring my remote control, thus allowing me to hold on tightly to the tripod. After that, walked down to the Singapore Flyer and took different angles and perspectives of the Christmas tree! Check out my photos in Flickr !

Continued moving along the Marina Bay circuit, ended up at the Esplanade, overlooking the Marina Bay. I was looking forward to the floating spheres to be lighted up but it wasn’t !! Disappointed though, took photos of the Marina Bay night scenery landscape and enjoyed the peace and tranquility, looking forward to Marina Bay Countdown Fireworks on 31st December 2009 !

Would be planning to capture other Christmas trees and lights along the Orchard Road shopping district soon, before Christmas arrives ! Hope you folks have a fun and merry Christmas celebration !

Vivo City Christmas Tree 2008

For the past few years, I would always take time off during the month of December to go around Singapore and take photos of the Christmas Trees and lighting around Singapore. However, this year 2008, it was a difficult last quarter 2008 and taking photos of the Christmas lights and trees went off my radar.

Today, on Christmas Day itself, I decided to go out and take my 1st Christmas Tree shoot for December 2008, with my friends, Dave Koh, Joel Leong and Dewei at Vivo City. Do check out the difference between the Vivo City Christmas Tree in 2008 and 2007

The Vivo City Christmas Tree is still very popular and when we were there, many people were crowding around the Christmas Tree, capturing a piece of its beauty, soaking in the festive holiday season.

My Christmas Gifts 2007 collection

Christmas 2007 has passed, no big celebrations but a good rest away from the overcrowded crowds.

Looking back, special year, have received a number of Christmas gifts (I usually don’t give and neither do I receive, yes, I am a scrooge). Wonderful gifts from many people, some went inside my tummy (Eric’s chocolates and Sterling’s Macadamia Nuts from Hawaii).

Showcasing some gifts here that I received:

LED lights from Scoutmaster Sterling imported from Hawaii, Beijing Olympics key chain from Joe, Hokkaido key chain from Alex, set of ESPRIT towels x 3 from Christmas gift exchange with Raymond.

Thanks to all who have given me wonderful Christmas gifts !

Also thanks to Kelvin & Jenny & Celeste for organising and allowing us to use their home for a Boxing Day gathering !

Have a great festive season 2007 ! Let’s all countdown to welcome 2008 !
